The Sleeping Monster

Hi everyone,
Here is an audio update on where I am regarding my journey back to food. You can listen to it on my Utterz player on the right or you can find it here. I would love any feedback you have.

Wow....as you are sharing your feelings about your sleeping monster, I am realizing that this is the very monster I feel like I have slayed during this juice feast. But, I am already aware that once I go back to solid foods, it will likely resurface and I'll have to deal with it again. Please do keep exploring what's going on under the surface. I think many of us need this message and need to be prepared one we reenter the world of food again. I can get so easily caught up and food has tried to be my master before. I don't want to feel that way again.

Thank you for being so open.
Love to you...

Hi Michelle
Have a question for you. Have you noticed in the past that personality change when you drink? Once you take the first drink, do you always want more? I have already mentioned to you that I have gone to AA. People who know me don't understand why - because they don't think I "drank enough" to qualify for membership - but what I have learned is it's not about quantity - it is about what happens once I pick up. It's about those sleeping monsters. It's about having a mind that will NOT let me alone. The whole AA process of getting in touch with stuffed resentments and really analyzing them, looking for my part in things and owning up to it, etc. has been very helpful to me.

OA - Overeaters Anonymous - works the same program, and focuses on identifying trigger foods and abstaining from them. Those are generally identified as white flour, sugar, that sort of thing. Don't really want you to give up your veggies! Point being: the process of working through the 12 steps is another of those tools for getting to the root of the problem. Maybe I can share some of that with you as you share The Journey with me.

Maybe you are being too hard on yourself too. One of the things I am very aware of is that I have to be careful and not get perfectionistic about some of the JF protocols. If I were still seeing the therapist I was seeing in regard to my eating disorder diagnosis (compulsive overeating) there are some things that she would consider red flags: like eliminating whole food groups & doing enemas.

I think it is ok for us to like food. I believe we were meant to enjoy it. What I have to watch out for is substituting the satisfaction of food for things like meditation and prayer. So maybe that is something that would help - to just always aim to keep your life balanced, i.e. make sure you make the time to nurture yourself, to spend time meditating, etc.

Don't know if this helps or not - take what you can use and leave the rest.

Michelle - I am loving your journal so much! I just found it via Penni's...don't know if you're still keeping it up, but I am on Day 24 of a Juice Feast and I LOVE going back through yours! It is such a wealth of information. I love how you organized it and all the links and your experiences and everything. I will be perusing it for quite some time.
Thank you so much!
